“MAURYK is a Berlin-based movie director, photographer, and writer from Poland whose films are characterized by a multi-layered nature of modern reality.

His most recently released movies are: “A Queen is dead, long live the Queen”, “ALMOST A KILLA” and “Matula”. He studies at DFFB Berlin.”
At the age of 9 I received my first video camera – a symbolic moment in my life as I
immediately started filming everything and have not stopped ever since.
In 2013 I acted in „Salto Mortale”, a performance by Teatr Strefa Ciszy (The Zone of Silence
Theatre).
In 2015 I began editing various games recorded on my computer, producing coverage of
journeys and vlogs and presented them on my YouTube channel. Because I was a very
active scout I also made a documentary about our summer camp.
In my high school „Marcinek” I was a member of the Student Government and I was
responsible for the artwork and coverage of school events. I made films of song contests,
music days and charity concerts. In the meantime, I started taking photographs of various
events, which introduced me to the world of documentary photography.
Out of my own initiative I filmed and edited a movie with a characteristic neon logo of the
oldest art house „Rialto” in Poznań.
In 2017 I had a stint as a model in Zuza Krajewska’s photo shoot for the TEETH
MAGAZINE. It was my first serious contact with the world of professional photography.
With friends I made a 15-minute étude about nature based on „Pan Tadeusz” (a major Polish
epic). I also filmed weddings and made a film about skaters from Poznań.
In 2018 I joined the SEXEDPL movement. The project , among other things, included
publishing a book with interviews by Anja Rubik about adolescent love and sex. I took part in
Zuza Krajewska’s photo shoot for the book, a portrait photo shoot with Paola Kudacki and
Adam Plucinski’s photo shoot for the cover of „Wysokie obcasy” (“High Heels” – one of the
main Polish weekly magazines). With friends whom I met there I co-created THELUSTALBUM
– a project about extraordinary personalities and the cult of the Internet.
I took photos and recorded a lookbook for a Polish jewellery designer Hubert Kołodziejski.
I made a film “Psyche” published in July 2019.
Having failed in a recruitment process to direction of cinematography I decided to study philosophy.
After the philosophy classes had been suspended (covid) I left my studies in order to devote
all my time to develop the idea for a short film “Dog’s Life” ( which was released online on 7
November 2020.
I participated in Jagoda Szelc’s script writing group at the Film Spring Open.
I took part in a documentary photography workshop “My District” conducted by Mariusz
Forecki. I won an award for the best photographs in the category „Everyday Life” and
qualified to “Events” at Wielkopolska Press Photo 2020.
I continued my studies at the faculty of philosophy and cultural studies as an auditor.
I made my next film, this time employing theatre actors from Teatr Porywacze Ciał (The Body
Snatchers), entitled “Cuckold and Content” whose script I began writing in summer 2020.
The premiere took place on 18 November 2021 in the oldest cinema in Poznań. It was also
screened in Krakow Off Stage called “Scena Supernova”.
In the meantime, I was cooperating with Teatr Biuro Podróży (Travel Agency Theatre).
In November 2021 I participated in “NarrAction” workshop in France and Film Spring Open
organized by Sławomir Idziak.
Two years ago I decided to move to Berlin where I am developing my idea for the next film,
intensively learning German studying in DFFB filmschool.
In October 2023 I finished my most recent movie: “The Queen is dead, long live The
Queen”.
I’m currently working on my second short movie “A MAN GOING HIS OWN WAY”, that
explores the story of Brenton, a young boy growing up in a cult-like village, influenced by
“Men Going Their Own Way” movement.
